Broker's Comments
‘Legend yachts are built by Hunter Marine in Florida, USA, a subsidiary of the Luhrs Marine Group, one of the largest yacht producers in the World. The Luhrs Marine Group has its roots deeply imbedded in the marine business for well over a century. In 1973, the first Hunter Marine sailboat was launched, a very affordable 25 footer. Today, Hunter Marine Corporation is one of the largest sailboat builders in the world and are able to offer massive economies of scale to reach an exceptional price/quality ratio’.
So, that’s the history according to the builder’s brochure, but what do we at Boatshed Wales think of her? Both of us Staunchly British and a bit conservative and one of us a bit of a traditionalist in outlook, as we are?
In short we love her! At every turn you could hear one or both say “what a great idea” or “just look at this – brilliant, they’ve thought of everything!” Mike naturally envisaged the party boat opportunities afforded by her huge saloon, wrap around seating and general cockpit ambiance while Alan enthused about the readily accessible engine installation and sea cocks! Her back-stay less rig has been well proven in round the world competition and her deck gear is of the highest quality – Lewmar, Selden, Harken; it doesn’t get much better.
OK, you might wish for something a bit sturdier to overwinter in the arctic ice or beat singlehanded around Cape Horn but for all normal coastal and across channel passages she’d tick ALL the boxes! She’s only recently come to us and appears to be well maintained and looked after. At eight years old she’s still almost a new yacht – at a keen price.
Hunter Marine is easily confused with the similarly-named British boat builder, Hunter Boats (now British Hunter). Consequently Hunter Marine uses the brand name “Legend” for boats sold in Great Britain.
