Roger Drewery - Boatshed Southampton

Roger joined the team with Boatshed Southampton in 2017 and with his background as a sailing instructor he has been on board lots of boats!

Roger's best experience on a boat so far was when he was skipper in the Tall Ships Race in 2018, a great experience he will never forget. He remembers when he was sailing on an OYSTER 50 coming out of Flushing in a lumpy sea (wind over tide) when he lost the life raft from the back of the boat. Luckily he found it hanging off the back, however there was a complete electrical failure as he called Ostend Coast Guard to say he may have to cut it loose!

He loves to go boating around Holland Frisian Island or Norway and the furthest he's travelled on a boat is when he took part in the TransAtlantic 1992 Tall Ships Race.

Fun Facts about Roger...

  • Coronation chicken is his favourite sandwich filling
  • He loves a glass of Rocks Organic Orange Squash
  • His favourite colour is blue
  • His first pet was called Tamba Sam

If he travelled to a Desert Island he would arrive on an Oyster 50 from the 1990s - Holman Pye Design. He'd listen to Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms", Queen "Platinum Collection" and Bob Marley "Legends". He'd enjoy reading To the Baltic With BOB by Griff Rhys Jones and when he had a moment to himself he might think about Prince Edward who he sailed with several times when he worked for Ocean Youth Club (now Trust) in the 1980s.

When Roger isn't playing with boats he loves SIM Racing and Craft Beer.
