Broker's Comments
If preservation orders were applied to boats, this one would be a candidate. The original owner was a classical artist who worked between employed jobs to turn this into a treasure trove of beatuiful features and details. Nothing is utilitarian. She has a charm and a uniqueness all of her own.
From the trad stern you step down into the engine room with a replacement Beta JD3 Tug engine that runs like a dream. Even in this most mundane of rooms the walls are bedecked with paintings and classic posters.
The main living area to the forward end of the boat is an open plan saloon and galley. Here every feature speaks of artistry with the imaginative use of wooden shelves and nods to Gaudi in the details. The floor is solid wood as befits the quality of the rest of the boat.
The galley has a solid fuel oven that burns efficiently with anthracite heating an oven, two plates and the gravity-fed radiator heating. The sink is small, round and filled from two brass hand pumps. Food is cooled in a classic evaporating fridge. Even the storage cupboards have character; built from recycled packing cases.
The sleeping cabin has a walk-through with full-sized double mattress. Storage is provided in styled cupboards and beneath the bed.
Beneath the tug deck is space enough to stoop with storage for the essentials of living aboard. The bow locker acts as the coal bunker that can be accessed from above to fill and below to refill the scuttle for the oven.
The Heads has a small enamel bath with hand-held shower head. The styled corner basin has electric pumped hot water and a hand pump for the cold. A mahogony toilet seat fits the environment and is flushed by a brass pump handle.
If you are wanting a narrowboat straight off the production line; this is not the boat for you. She has been lived aboard since new and has all that is required. The present owner has cruised extensively throughout almost the whole of the canal network. This is not a museum of curiosity, but a beatifully stylish practical narrowboat to live aboard and continue the exploration of the unseen corners of the country.
