Guernsey is fantastically set up to welcome visiting yachtsmen and recently two local ladies, are selling breakfast baguettes, croissants and pan au chocolate on the outer pontoons, so you get breakfast delivered to you. This has all been made possible with the new walk on, walk off pontoon joining the outer visitor pontoons to the land.

Guernsey is well set up for visiting yachtsman with around 550 berths available and their friendly harbour team will meet you in a white dory and show you where to berth. Because of the huge tides everyone seems to arrive at once, there can be up to 50 boats all looking for a berth. Its like a military operation with the harbour team dorys' whizzing around the place, all very organised.

The new walk on, walk off pontoon is temporary, just for the peak summer season and makes a massive difference to crews heading ashore and enjoying the local festivities, of which there are plenty.

The inner harbour can take boats whose draught if less than 1.8 meters and no dogs are allowed, however dogs are allowed on the outer visiting pontoons and a trial is now allowing visiting boats with dogs into Queen Elizabeth marinas.

Of course the coastal paths, weather and food are all so much better in Guernsey than the south coast UK, definitely worth making the trip.
