Dockmate’s DPS V2 designed for easy retrofit
Dockmate, a manufacturer of advanced wireless remote controls for yachts, says its Dockmate Positioning System (DPS), has been completely redesigned for easy retrofit (which then offers increased safety and ease of use).
Because the Dockmate Receiver already handles control of engines/motors and thrusters through its existing integrations, DPS V2 needs less hardware to achieve the same results as much more expensive aftermarket dynamic positioning systems (DPS V2 is completely self-contained within the receiver).
“When we released DPS this time last year, we knew we had created functionality that was in high demand by boaters around the world,” says Dirk Illegems, president of Dockmate.
“That said, it was important to simplify the hardware for a more streamlined installation and manufacturing process. The operation of DPS V2 is exactly the same as the award-winning DPS system, but with a lot less parts, reducing complexity and weight.
“We’re extremely proud that DPS V2 has already been nominated for the DAME Design Awards 2024. Our customers are going to love it and our installers will appreciate the elegant simplicity of the system.”
Recently Bill Karmis, sales director at Dockmate USA, provided insight into how this technology is designed to simplify docking and on-water operations, making them more accessible for a wide range of users.
The all new V2 has two operating modes: ocean and precision mode. In the former, DPS will use only the engines to keep the boat in its target position for twin-engine boats. For single-engine boats, DPS uses the engine and proportional bow and stern thrusters to hold position. It is ideal for short-handed crews, allowing the captain to step away from the helm to tend to mooring lines and fenders before entering a marina. In precision mode, DPS uses both the engines and proportional bow and stern thrusters in concert to keep the vessel in its target position and maintain precise heading.
If it’s not already compatible, any Dockmate rev.G+ Receiver can be upgraded with minimal change in hardware to support Dockmate Positioning System. This reduces waste caused by upgrades and the company doesn’t need to produce a whole new receiver. This is in part thanks to the modularity of the Dockmate Wireless Remote Control System. The company says DPS is easy to install and requires only a short calibration sea trial.
