Environmental officer course to launch at boot Düsseldorf
A new, online modular environmental officer course is to be unveiled by EnviroNaut at boot Düsseldorf (20-28 January 2024).
Environaut is an Erasmus+ project funded by the European Union, in collaboration with six project partners, and the EnviroNaut Environmental Officer Course marks the culmination of a two-year endeavour.
The partners involved are the European Boating Industry (EBI); NGO Deutsche Meeresstiftung (German Maritime Foundation); Frederick University in Cyprus; National Technical University of Athens (NTUA); Sea Teach; and Bundesverband Wassersportwirtschaft (BVWW).
Launching on January 22 at the Blue Innovation Dock, the course is billed as a pioneering approach to environmental training within the nautical tourism sector.
Initiated in February 2022, the Environaut project addresses environmental challenges within the nautical tourism sector. The need to increase control over environmental impacts, improve knowledge regarding legislation, pollution control and waste management highlighted the need for a comprehensive training programme.
The primary objective of the EnviroNaut project is to create a course for the position of “Environmental Officer in Nautical Tourism” and deliver it as a modular online course. This programme aims to bridge the gaps in environmental awareness, legislative compliance and sustainability practices.
The launch event at boot Düsseldorf 2024 will feature a panel discussion on skills for sustainable nautical tourism from 2.30pm to 3.15pm and a presentation on the EnviroNaut course at the Blue Innovation Dock stage from 3.30pm to 4pm. Panellists include Karsten Stahlhut, managing director of the German Marine Association, Frank Schweikert (founder of the German Ocean Foundation) and Stavros Katsikadis, Ppresident of the Greek Marinas Association, among others.
The EnviroNaut course comprises five online modules, including an introductory module on Ocean Literacy and four specialised modules tailored for workers in marinas, sea schools and watersport clubs, skippers, and maintenance companies. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate for the position as ‘environmental officer’. It will also be a sign of environmental action for companies training their employees.
Following the launch, the EnviroNaut course will be accessible to everyone free of charge on the EnviroNaut website. environaut.eu.
Registration for the launch event on 22 January is now live.
