Last minute summer days out on the Isle of Wight you don’t need to book
With the summer holidays well under way, there is still plenty of time to fit in a few more days out while the sun is shining.
The Isle of Wight offers a host of fun and interesting things to do with the whole family, with something for all ages. And don’t forget that with Wightlink’s Kids Go Free deal, parents can take up to two children aged 5-15 for free during the summer holidays with every adult foot passenger day return ticket.
This year sees the launch of The Wight Proms between 16 – 19 August, a brand-new annual festival of open-air picnic concerts at Northwood House, Cowes which celebrates the Isle of Wight’s music, food and people. There has never been a music festival like this on the Island, catering to lovers of both classical music and musical theatre. The 4-day festival will host a range of workshops from a Musical Theatre session to Stomp Style Body Percussion and Samba Drumming classes. Day tickets are priced at £15.
Blackgang Chine is the UK’s oldest amusement park and is hosting the ultimate birthday party to celebrate its 175th anniversary this year! Every Monday and Wednesday until the end of the summer holidays (23 July – 29 August), there is a huge programme of activities that even includes a circus workshop. DJ Omar will be playing the coolest soundtrack onboard the pirate ship in Pirate Cove and the Fairy Queen and her friends will bring a touch of magic to guest’s visit. The evening finishes with fireworks to add sparkle to the summer break. Tickets start from £19.50.
The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival 2018 takes place on 18 and 19 August and is set against a backdrop of rolling hills and stunning countryside. The festival combines the very best food and entertainment, with live music, stalls and children’s activities. The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival is the island’s biggest summer show and simply one of the best days out for all the family. A day ticket is priced at £12.50.
The boutique music festival Eklectica returns to Robin Hill Country Park from 7 – 9 September, following its success last year. Acts include Pixie Lott, Scouting for Girls, The Hoosiers, The Fratellis and Toploader, with more sets yet to be announced. A weekend ticket including camping is priced at £75 for adults and £55 for children.
Now in its 17th year, the famous Isle of Wight Charity Classic Car Show returns on the 15 and 16 September, giving you the opportunity to see a spectacular collection of vintage, classic, custom and retro cars plus other rare vehicles from across the UK and Mainland Europe. This free-to-attend, two-day event is guaranteed to delight children and adults of all ages.
With so much left of summer to enjoy and so much still to do, there has never been a better time to enjoy a trip to the Isle of Wight.
