Supermarket chain Lidl has entered the maritime market with its gravy yacht fleet. The new fleet of Lidl gravy boats, styled as miniature yachts, feature 100 standard 2-litre vessels and five flagship superyachts boasting a larger, 5-litre capacity.

Designed specifically in response to the fact that ‘there is never enough gravy to go around’, the supermarket chain claims traditional gravy boats do not meet the demands of festive dining. In contrast, Lidl’s gravy boats and ‘superyacht-classed’ gravy vessels usher in an improved gravy-carrying capability.

In a nod to maritime tradition, the yachting-inspired Lidl gravy boats have official captaincy credentials, including a ‘Captain Gravy’ hat and nautical neckerchief.

The limited edition collection will be available through an online lottery system on the Gravy Yacht website from Friday 22 November, until 29 November.  For those who miss out on this opportunity, Lidl is offering a consolation prize of 10,000 deluxe gravy granule coupons.

While they won’t enter the real fleet, Lidl claims these are “super-sized vessels poised to make your Christmas dinner dreams come true.” Will Aldi respond with an even larger vessel?

In 2022, the German-headquartered international supermarket filed a trademark to start a new shipping line to transport its goods. The move aimed to help reduce delays and ease transport costs amid the supply chain crisis.
