Richard Martin - Boatshed Chichester

Richard started working with Boatshed in 2013. He looks after several brands - Boatshed Chichester, Southampton & Hayling Island.

Prior to working with Boatshed Richard owned his own Sea School in Chichester. Alongside his passion for the sea, is his passion for music. Richard was a professional musician for 30 years. During his musical career he managed the 1970's group Hot Chocolate - the only group in the UK to have a hit for 15 consecutive years!

Richard has spent many hours at sea but his best experience on a boat was during a flat calm day on his Ribcraft 6m, travelling from Weymouth to Chichester. He has had many a good time aboard his RIB but can remember one of his worst was getting caught in overfalls at St Albans Head in a Force 7, eeek! It was to Jersey that Richard has travelled the furthest , in his RIB, you will mainly find him cruising around the Solent and the Jurassic Coast.

Fun Facts about Richard...

  • Cheese & tomato is his favourite sandwich filling
  • He likes to drink a pint of Real Ale
  • His favourite colour is blue
  • His first pet was called Toby

If he travelled to a Desert Island he would arrive aboard a Scorpion 8.5 metre RIB with twin 250HP Yamaha outboards. His music of choice would be Led Zeppelin, Django Reinhardt and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no 2.

He may spend a little time dreaming of the antics of Sir Francis Drake, the first mariner Richard was aware of.
Or whilst on the rare occasion Richard is not on the water, you may find him flying helicopters or listening to some good music.

Finally we have all been restricted with our travel movements over the last year, however once we are able, Richard would like to fly off to the Canary Islands and Majorca.
