METSTRADE: Seabird launches 400X electric outboard concept
Seabird Technologies, a London-based start-up specialising in electric propulsion systems and electric foiling raceboats, has introduced the Seabird 400X concept at METSTRADE 2024 in Amsterdam.
Seabird focuses on developing sustainable and efficient alternatives to traditional maritime propulsion methods, including projects for the E1 World Championship.
The Seabird 400X is a high-power electric outboard designed with an 800V powertrain delivering a peak of 400kW (530HP+) and continuous 300kW (400HP) power. Weighing approximately 200kg, the design is said to integrate compact, hydrodynamic efficiency with minimal environmental impact and near-silent operation.
Seabird previously developed the Racebird, an all-electric foiling raceboat.
“At Seabird we are all about accelerating a cleaner future for the industry,” says Richard Draisey, CEO of Seabird Technologies. “Our ideas were born in the heat of competition and now we are excited to transfer our learning to commercial innovation. Our ambition [is] to set a new pace in electric propulsion whilst leaving the waters we cherish untouched.”
Seabird previously developed the Racebird, an all-electric foiling raceboat, to demonstrate the potential for marine decarbonisation without compromising performance.
Seabird Technologies says the Seabird 400X builds on this foundation and is aiming to redefine standards in marine propulsion technology.
