British boatbuilder Oyster Yachts has reported record financial and sales performance this year, despite ongoing challenges within the sailing yacht industry.

With two months left in the financial year, the Southampton-based company has achieved £55m in new boat sales revenue, driven by the sale of 16 yachts. Additional sales are expected before year-end, according to the firm.

Oyster says the growth in its global sales is linked to the success of its 50ft to 90ft bluewater sailing yachts. Other contributing factors include the Oyster World Rally, a circumnavigation event, and a range of services provided to yacht owners, including training, guidance, and access to a global service network, which are designed to facilitate long-range cruising.

Oyster’s production facilities in southern and eastern England are now at full capacity until 2027. Currently, 25 yachts are in various stages of construction, from moulding to commissioning.

In April 2024, Oyster Yachts announced a return to profit following an increase in turnover in 2023. The firm has been faced with challenges in recent years because of Brexit, global supply chain issues and the remaining impact of the global pandemic

This year began with the sale of two new yachts: the next hull of the flagship Oyster 885 SII and the 70-foot Oyster 675. The Oyster 595 has been the dominant choice among customers, particularly for owner-operated world cruising. To meet increased demand for this model, the company has invested in a second mould tool to expand production capacity for the 60-foot bluewater cruiser.

Ashley Highfield, CEO of Oyster Yachts, says: “The success of our sales and the financial turnaround of the business this year is a testament to both the incredible work being performed across the business and the quality of the yachts we are producing. Alongside taking delivery of a yacht, each Oyster owner can take advantage of the comprehensive services we provide to ensure confidence to adventure further with our support. From training and guidance, access to our Global Service Network, crew assistance and joining us at one of our exclusive international owner events, the Oyster family is a special group to be a part of.

“Following the launch of the Oyster World Rally 2028-29 last Summer, we have seen an unprecedented demand for spaces, with a number of new sales being commissioned to fulfil that dream. Whether the aim is a global circumnavigation or to enjoy time cruising with family and friends, the Oyster family continue to take on inspiring adventures all over the world, and we support them every step of the way.”
