Rees Leisure named first ever winners of new regatta cup
A brand-new sailing regatta kicked off yesterday as TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show saw action both on and off the water.
TheYachtMarket.com Regatta is a brand-new three-day regatta running at the same time as TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show.
The regatta aims to get more people on the water and yesterday’s action didn’t disappoint. Around 60 people took part in the City Cup, a day of racing pitting businesses and residents from the city of Southampton against one another.
Sailing on a fleet of Sunsail Match F40s, the six teams battled it out in a day of intense racing on Southampton Water. Among those participating were:
- Rees Leisure
- Carswell Gould
- DDV networking group
- Augmentus Group
- Mooloo Media
- Action Coach
In the end it was Rees Leisure who claimed victory in the day’s racing and representatives were presented with their award on TheYachtMarket.com stand.
Richard W. Roberts, founder and CEO of TheYachtMarket.com, said: “We’ve been full of excitement about the first day of TheYachtMarket.com Regatta ever since we came up with the concept just under a year ago. Today really has lived up to all expectations and we couldn’t have wished for better conditions or competitors. A huge congratulations to Rees Leisure and everyone who took part. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.”
TheYachtMarket.com Regatta is running from September 17 to 19 and features four cups:
- The City Cup (Sep 17) – pitting teams from the city of Southampton against one another for victory on the water
- The Women’s Cup (Sep 18) – a day dedicated to all-female crews
- The Community Cup (Sep 18) – young people from Southampton trying a day of sailing
- The Property Cup (Sep 19) – bringing businesses from the property industry together to race on Southampton Water
The regatta has been created as part of TheYachtMarket.com’s bid to get more people out on the water and trying sailing.
Other partners include Rees Leisure, Sunsail, which will provide a fleet of Sunsail Match First 40s, complete with skippers, and British Marine.
TheYachtMarket.com Regatta also aims to support worthy causes. A percentage of entry fees will be split between Geoff Holt’s Wetwheels and Sail 4 Cancer.
