Rán Come Back in Poole Bay
2018 FAST40+ Race Circuit – Round Two
International Paint Poole Regatta
Niklas Zennstrom’s Swedish Carkeek designed Rán has won Round Two of the FAST40+ Circuit, coming out on top by just three points in a thrilling series of six races in Poole Bay. Rán won just two of the six races, held as part of the International Paint Poole Regatta. Stewart Whitehead’s Carkeek MkIII Rebellion was on the race podium on five occasions, winning Race 5, to finish the regatta in second place. Peter Morton’s CF40+ Girls on Film, helmed by Anthony O’Leary scored two race victories to complete the podium.
During the six race series over half of the 11-strong FAST40+ fleet made the podium. Irishman Niall Dowling at the helm of Ker40+ Pace, made the podium in three races to come fourth. Tony Dickin’s Farr 42 Jubilee, won the final race, to come fifth, and Mike Bartholomew’s South African Botin Carkeek 42 Tokoloshe II, scored a second place in Race 5 to finish the regatta in sixth place.
“It was great to see the Fast40+ fleet all together in a different sailing area. We enjoyed the venue for the racing and the hospitality arranged by the combined yacht clubs in Poole.” commented Rebellion’s Stewart Whitehead. “The conditions were tricky with light winds in general but Ruaridh (Scott) did a good job of getting us off the start line and getting the right side of the shifts. The crew work is coming together well and the banter was solid. Congratulations to Nicholas and Rán for their win this weekend – Roll on the next event.”
Anthony O’Leary was at the helm of Girls on Film, while owner, Peter Morton, is recovering from a shoulder operation. “Coming back into the class after two years, I have to say that the level is much higher.” commented Anthony O’Leary. “I have to say now that all of the teams have massively improved their performance. Four teams took race wins, which says it all.”
Round 3 of the 2018 FAST40+ Circuit will be the FAST40+ National Championship, organised by the Royal Thames Yacht Club, 29 June – 01 July.
