Viking Neptune makes Italian debut
Viking Neptune, the newest ocean cruise ship built by Fincantieri for the shipowner Viking, has been floated on the water for the first time at a shipyard in Ancona, Italy.
The new 930-guest cruise ship is Viking’s latest model and will spend her maiden season sailing in the Mediterranean this winter, before embarking on the company’s 2023-2024 Viking World Cruise.
According to Fincantieri, the Viking models feature energy-efficient engines, optimised hydrodynamics and hull to reduce consumption, as well as systems that “minimise pollution produced by exhaust gases.”
Fincantieri started its partnership with Viking in 2012 when the shipowner was entering the ocean cruise market as a start-up. To date, the cooperation has reached a total of 20 units, including the order awarded to Vard for two expedition cruise ships, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, including options.
Fincantieri claims this to be the largest number of units ever ordered to a shipbuilder by one sole shipowner.
Another nine units, options included, will take to the sea from the Group’s Italian yards in the next years.
The 465-cabin cruise ship weighs around 47,800 tons, and features interior design by London-based SMC Design and Los Angeles-based Rottet Studios.
In addition to the all-veranda staterooms, the Viking Neptune has spacious suites, two pools including an infinity design off the stern, and a spa with sauna and a snow grotto.
