Yanmar launches new SD15 saildrive systems
Yanmar Marine International (YMI) has announced the launch of custom solutions to pair with its new SD15 saildrive.
The company says the new systems for larger vessels up to 65 feet enable more boat owners and boat builders to benefit from the combined technology and efficiencies of its higher power common rail engines and compatible saildrive models.
YMI claims that following the roll out of the full range of low-drag SD15 systems, it will offer the largest line-up of saildrive solutions on the market to cover engines ranging from 10hp up to 150hp.
Developed by partner ZF, the new SD15 saildrive is now available with the 4JH80 and 4JH110 engines, with the 4LV150-SD15 solution scheduled for launch in the third quarter of 2022.
It’s said these saildrive propulsion systems provide a new option for an extended range of sailboats and catamarans using engines from 80hp upwards that have previously relied on conventional shaftdrive lines.
The electronically controlled common rail engines pair with the electric-controlled SD15 saildrive, providing clean installation and safe, smooth operation with hydraulic shifting.
According to YMI, those on board will benefit from low vibration and noise when motoring while not under sail, whilst low drag and excellent hydrodynamic efficiency improve performance and fuel consumption.
The SD15 saildrive has a light aluminium casing treated to maximise corrosion resistance. YMI also offers custom motor mounts and brackets.
Compact, easy, and safe to install with no specific alignments required, Yanmar says the SD15 simplifies the production process and reduces costs for OEMs while also allowing increased design flexibility and improved serviceability.
